Phil Glaser is the manager of Capital Landscaping. He began his landscaping career at age 16 while a student at Dowling Catholic High School when he began working at Des Moines Seed & Nursery.  After serving over seas in the Army Phil moved back to Des Moines in the spring of 1996 and joined the family lawn care business. After one year with the encouragement of his family he started what is now Capital Landscaping. Phil is a proud member of the National Snow and Ice Management Association, The National Concrete Masonry Association and the Iowa Nursery Association.  Phil has consulted both locally and nationally with companies regarding snow and ice management and is involved with local sports groups regarding their turf management needs.

Phil will meet you at your home or business to assess your landscaping needs.  They will design a custom landscape for you to meet your needs using their experience and education.  Whether you have ideas in mind or need some help creating an overall plan they can help you turn your outdoor space into everything you dreamed of.   Our designers are involved in every aspect of your project to assure that their design and the work of our crews meet and exceed your expectations.  They take pride in delivering creative and effective designs to each client.  Please call the office to set up your appointment. 515-244-2724

The office manager for Capital Landscaping is Katharina Glaser.  Katharina is married to Phil, and they have a son Matthew.  She is active in local soccer programs, likes to garden, and cook.  Katharina can help you with payments and billing questions.

Joe Leveke is Capital Landscaping’s designer with a B.S. in Horticulture-Landscape Design and Installation and has over 10 years experience in the landscape industry. Joseph Leveke began his work in horticulture as a nursery attendant at a local garden center, which led a lifetime of dedication to creating and maintaining ascetically pleasing and environmentally friendly outdoor spaces.

By 2003 Leveke had a few years of experience working with a variety of plant materials and made a change to the landscape design and construction sector of the horticulture industry while attending Des Moines Area Community College. There were a few different companies that Joe worked for, and developed skills for installation of both manufactured concrete products and natural stone. Wanting to gain more knowledge about designing, installing and maintaining outdoor environments Joe made the decision to peruse a B.S. in Horticulture-Plant Design and Installation at Iowa State University. His focus was developing a design style that integrates Iowa's natural beauty with traditional garden styles. Joe's uses of low maintenance perennials, native type shrubs and elements of both deciduous and coniferous trees yield outdoor spaces that maintain color of interest year round. However Joe is able to accommodate any homeowner’s needs if they prefer a more formal setting. Joe is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys fishing, hunting, kayaking, and backpacking. Joe can meet with you at your home to discuss your options for your landscape construction projects big and small.

Capital Landscaping is excited to have a new shop cat Mr. Biggles.  He is quickly becoming the most popular in the office and is a valuable asset to the Capital Landscaping team.
Update - Mr. Biggles has retired to the home of Phil and Katharina. He was an overachiever in the paper shuffling department and his human colleagues could not keep up with him.
